The “DER Performance Capability and Functional Settings Database” (in short: DER Settings Database) is a public, web-based repository for the settings that utilities require for interconnection of DER. Data can be directly entered into the database by authorized utility personnel. One or more DER settings files can be posted and associated with various metadata like DER types, IEEE 1547-specified performance categories, sizes, etc. Anyone can search this database (e.g. by region, by utility, etc.) and download the DER settings files of interest. DER manufacturers, installers, and utility interconnection engineers can use the DER settings files to configure and/or validate the functional settings applied in DER in the field; this can be done either offline during the DER commissioning or online by use of a DER management system (DERMS).
The DER settings files are of a comma-separated variables (CSV) format that EPRI is presently working with industry stakeholders to standardize. The parameter naming conventions within the file align with those in IEEE P1547.1.
Distributed Energy Resources (DER), like distribution-connected solar photovoltaic systems, can provide a wide range of grid-supportive functions. Per the IEEE Std 1547™-2018, these functions are standardized and adjustable over a range of allowable settings. The full set of configuration parameters that establish the behavior of a DER can be arranged in a single file, a so-called utility-required profile (URP), the structure of which may also be standardized so that DER settings files (a.k.a. URPs) can be efficiently exchanged between parties. The ability to efficiently store and exchange DER settings files is particularly useful to help DER developers and manufacturers to know the requirements that exist within each distribution utility’s service territory.
